Dutch branch of Friends of the Earth won landmark case against Shell in 2021

Requires Shell to reduce their carbon emissions 45% in next 10 years

Now they’re going after 30 multinational companies with a legal footprint in the Netherlands

Sent letter calling on companies to deliver a plan by Mid-April that cut their emissions 45% by 2030 

Companies receiving a letter include KLM, Dutch bank ABN, Exxon, British Petroleum, Dow Chemical

Capacity

  • Total installed capacity of around 22.1 GW or ~4.2M homes
  • 2021 installations alone exceeded 1 GW or ~ 190K homes
  • By 2030 – its estimated 13.4% of U.S. homes will have solar

Costs - rooftop versus utility and commercial installations

  • Residential ($135 - $203 / MWh) ~ 5.4 times the cost of utility scale
  • Commercial / Industrial ($62 - $166 / MWh) – 2.7 times the cost of utility solar
  • Utility scale solar - $23 - $34 / MWh

Average payback period - 7.5 years

If passed, Build Back Better Act is forecast to result in 31% additional growth (compared to base case) over next four years
